With millions, global translations and numerous films by his works, Glattauer is one of the best known and most influential writers in Austria. Daniel Glattauer was born in Vienna and spent his childhood in the 10th Viennese district of favorites. After visiting the Neuland School on Laaer Berg, he graduated in 1978 and studied pedagogy and art history at the University of Vienna, where he completed in 1985. his new novel "In a Train", which was published in January 2025, after moving from Zsolnay Verlag to Dumont Buchverlag, is one of his most autobiographical works. The action takes place during a train journey from Vienna to Munich, in which the protagonists Eduard Brünhofer, a bestselling author, and Catrin Meyr, a young psychotherapist, meet. Eduard has not published a new work for over 13 years, and Catrin confronts him with personal questions about love and passion.
The interaction between the two characters is perceived as tranquil and uneven. While the conversation is progressing, readers are given a deep understanding of Eduard's world of thoughts. The phrases of the dialogue are amusing and contribute to the tension until the meaning of the conversation is dissolved towards the end of the book.
Despite his success, Glattauer is also involved in social and migration policy issues. His piece "Die Liebe Money", which appeared in 2020, also contains a critical examination of capitalism and addresses current social issues.
