China's first solid batteries: Revolution for the electric cars!

On July 4, 2025, the Chinese company Anhui Anwa New Energy Technology (Axxiva) presented the first batch of its solid -state batteries (SSB). These batteries produced in the technology development zone Wuhu meet the new "No Fire no explosion" security standard, which underlines their suitability for different applications. The first generation of SSB has an energy density of 300 Wh/kg, while a second generation with 400 Wh/kg is already in the test phase.

In the long term, Anwa plans to bring cells with an impressive energy density of 500 WH/KG into series production from 2027. The production line uses an advanced, energy -efficient, five -stage drying process and is intended to achieve a production capacity of 1.25 GWh in the long term. Volkswagen, on the other hand, has already announced a pilot plant for 2025, while Nissan works with a prototype system for laminated solid batteries, which is said to be ready for series production. BMW tests the technology together with Solid Power, and Mercedes builds a factory for the development of these batteries in Dunkirk, which is scheduled to start in 2024

The advantages of the solid-state batteries, including up to 30% higher range and halved loading times, prove their potential to exceed existing lithium-ion technology. However, the current research shows that the selection of materials and structure of the batteries are decisive for progress. The competition remains high, because the existing lithium-ion batteries continue to have a technological lead.
