Burgenland's running stars in the shadow of the European Championship: tension before the preliminaries!
The European Halle Championship has taken an extent to the Burgenland Raphael Pallitsch and Caroline Bredlinger in Apeldoorn. Both athletes showed strong performances in their preliminaries, but the little bit of luck was missing for the promotion to the final. Raphael Pallitsch, the current state champion, started over 1500 meters and had to be satisfied with the ungrateful fourth place in the third lead. Despite a determined appearance and an end time of 3: 40.96 minutes, the 35-year-old was only 44 hundredths of a second to move into the final, which left him with mixed feelings, as burgenland.orf reported.
bad luck for Bredlinger
Caroline Bredlinger, who celebrated her European Championship debut in Apeldoorn, also faced the challenge of prevailing over 800 meters in her run-up. The Balkan champion headed well, but did not get past in time in the last curve and finished fourth with a time of 2: 08.90 minutes. She was only 15 hundredths of a second to move into the semi -finals. "I am not very satisfied," summed up the Trausdorf native. "I wanted to wait until the home stretch, but because of the slow pace I couldn't get through," said Bredlinger about her strategy and rated the race as important experience to gain confidence for future competitions, such as meinbezirk.at
Both athletes start in their competitions with a positive basic attitude. Even before the provisions, Bredlinger spoke about her intensive preparation and adaptation to the early start time. "I have tried to mentally adjust to the challenging conditions in the past few days," she said after her training. Pallitsch underlined his ambitions to want to assert himself among the best runners, especially with regard to the superstar Jakob Ingigtsen, with whom he had to run in the same run. For the Austrian team, which consisted of a total of seven athletes, the World Cup with almost 900 participants from 127 countries is a major challenge, especially since some stars waived their participation due to the latest EM and the upcoming outdoor season.
