The focus: strong relief and new kilometers of 2025!

Oberösterreich, Österreich - The rising costs for drivers and commuters will be noticeable from 2025, and the government reacts with new regulations. The increased CO₂ taxes, rising car taxes and the increase in standard consumption levy (Nova) predict their shadows. According to today, this means a significant financial burden for commuters, especially for those who are dependent on the car every day. In order to compensate for these additional costs, several federal states have set up their own aid and travel grants.

For example, commuters can apply for up to 1,200 euros annually in Lower Austria if the distance between the place of residence and work is at least 25 kilometers and the income remains below a certain limit. A commuter allowance is also offered in Upper Austria, which is up to 421 euros per year for distances from 25 kilometers. In Burgenland, there are basically grants from 20 kilometers that are different, depending on the distance and income. According to WKO , these funding should relieve customers and support the mobility, while the new rules for the mileage benefit 2025 come into force.

increase in mileage allowance

From January 1, 2025, the official mileage will be increased to 50 cents per kilometer, which is a significant increase compared to the previous sets of 42 cents for cars. The adaptation aims to promote the use of bicycles by raising the upper limit for kilometers driven to 3,000 per year. These measures are also intended to support mobile communities, as the grant for passengers increases from 5 cents to 15 cents. Compliance with the new regulations is expected to have an important relief for many commuters.
