In the Oberwart district, there were recently significant success in the sports world, especially in the areas of handball, table tennis and archery. These services not only underline the talents of the athletes from the region, but also the committed care by their trainers.
The handball teams of the Gym Oberschützen enjoyed great success at the national championship of the school Olympics for Higher States. Both teams remained undefeated throughout the tournament and thus secured the title of the national champion. The girls, supervised by Andrea Wagner, successfully prevailed against the teams of the Oberwart Business Campus and the ZBG Oberwart, while the boys team, under the coaching of Bernd Kager, won in an exciting final against the ZBG Oberwart with 17:16. These two representatives of the Burgenland will take part in the federal championship, which will take place in Telfs (Tyrol) from December 2 to 5, 2024.

Another sporty highlight was the 32nd international table tennis tournament, which was organized by UttC Oberwart on Saturday. The event attracted 267 mentions and comprised 372 games. The hosts were able to secure a total of 29 trophies, which underlines the outstanding performance of the players. In the main category, David Serdaroglu from Stockerau prevailed in front of the Uttc players Tilen Cvetko, Michael Seper and André Pierre Kases.
The tournament not only offered exciting individual competitions, but also in doubles and in the age categories. In addition to the main victories, there were numerous podium places for the players of the UTTC Oberwart, including remarkable successes in various individual and double competitions. This shows once again how much talent is in the region.
Nico Wiener triumphs at archery
Another remarkable success came from Nico Wiener from Schreibersdorf, who took part in the World Archery Stern tournament in chambers. In his first qualification round, he achieved remarkable 300 of 300 rings, followed by 299 in the second round. With a total value of 599 of a maximum of 600 rings, Nico not only secured the tournament victory, but also set his own Austrian record.
