Christophorus 16: Oberwart's lifesaver flies to 18,000. Mission
The emergency medical helicopter Christophorus 16, which has been stationed in Oberwart since May 2005, has recently reached a remarkable milestone: he graduated from 18,000. First and foremost, internal and neurological emergencies - such as heart attacks and strokes - are the most common reasons for use. In 2022, the team recorded a record of 1,232 missions, which underlines the high demand for air -bound emergency care in this region.
The importance of Christophorus 16 cannot be emphasized enough because it plays a central role in the emergency medical care of the South Burgenland, the adjacent Eastern Styria and the "Buckligen World" in Lower Austria. An important aspect of the operational strategy are primary inserts in which the helicopter flies directly to the emergency location and provides immediate medical care. In addition to these operations, secondary transports are also carried out for the transfer of patients between different hospital locations, especially if a specialized supply is necessary.
The team behind Christophorus 16
The team consists of 17 emergency doctors who are under the medical direction of Wilhelm Urschl. These doctors come from various hospitals in the region. In addition, 11 emergency paramedics- both professional and volunteers of the Austrian Red Cross- are part of the team, led by HCM Hans-Peter Polzer. The flight crew is provided by experienced pilots of the ÖAMTC FLURENTIFAUSEFAUS, led by base manager Andreas Wallner.
The operational operational readiness begins at 7 a.m. and remains active until dusk. The catchment area of Christophorus 16 extends over the southern districts of the Burgenland and extends to the Fischbacher Alps, including Eastern Styria and parts of Lower Austria, such as the alternating and semering area.
The continuity and success of Christophorus 16's missions show that air rescue in this region is not only important, but life -saving. With the introduction of the helicopter in Oberwart, the already good emergency medical care was significantly improved by the Red Cross.
This important occasion is not only a reason to celebrate for the team, but also a strong sign of the reliability and efficiency of air rescue in the region. Technologies and expertise from air rescue medicine enabled Christophorus 16 to save countless life.
