Horitschon, Österreich - Jakob B. (26) from Horitschon has been in Wachkoma for two years now. The passionate hobbies of the young man, such as climbing and guitars, have ended suddenly by a terrible incident in 2023. On January 13th, during a visit to a friend, he suffered a cardiovascular arrest that brought him into a wax coma, as his brother Mateo B. described in detail. A friend was able to revive him, but the devastating consequences of a long lack of oxygen led to severe brain damage. After months in the hospital, Jakob was moved to the Wachkoma station of the St. Peter nursing home in Oberpullendorf.

In the new care facility, Jakob's family feels better cared for and reports of small progress: "We have the feeling that Jakob is trying to communicate with us," says Mateo. There is now particularly exciting hope through the innovative "Mindbeagle" therapy device, which captures the brain flows of patients. This device may help Jakob regain his communicative skills. It is tested whether he can answer simple questions with yes or no after being exposed to stimuli such as noise and vibrations.
