Neusiedler See: A heart of Burgenland identity in Europe

in Brussels took place last night the opening of a special photo exhibition entitled "Lower Saxony Wadden Sea & Neusiedler See-Seewinkel-partnership without borders in a Europe of regions". The event was organized in the Lower Saxony State Representation, whereby State Councilor Heinrich Dorner emphasized the important role of Lake Neusiedler for Burgenland identity. He emphasized that the country is making great efforts to protect the Seewinkel area in the long term. The existing collaboration between Burgenland and Lower Saxony was described as "examples of Europe".

The cooperation extends through topics such as nature conservation, tourism and the strengthening of economic relationships. Dorner explained that both national parks-the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel and the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea-act as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and show how important a close cooperation is for the protection of ecosystems. This is also a sign of the cross -border nature of climate protection. The exhibition will be shown by the end of February 2025 and recognizes the special connection between these two unique natural areas.

essential points on the partnership

A year and a half ago, a cooperation between the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park and the Niedersachsisches Wadden Sea National Park was signed. The message is clear: climate change knows no limits, and only through joint effort can you encounter this critical problem. The State Council names the importance of renewable energies and the decarbonization of the economy to achieve climate neutrality.

These two national parks are not only known for their impressive landscapes, but also for the variety of habitats and species. The National Park Neusiedler See - Seewinkel has an area of around 97 square kilometers and is home to numerous endangered species, while the National Park Lower Saxony Wadden Sea extends over around 345 square kilometers and is considered an important bird rest area.

The collaboration between the two national parks is a great initiative because it not only focuses on nature conservation, but also on the promotion of tourism. By exchanging knowledge and practical experience, both regions want to maintain natural areas and promote tourism at the same time. These connections are of great value, both for the region and for the international ecological standards that are set with it.

The current challenges through climate change require constant attention and action. The exhibition and the partnership are therefore not only symbolic, but also of practical importance. The focus is on ensuring a sustainable future for both natural areas and their flora and fauna, which are dependent on the protection of water, coastal regions and their ecosystems.

These efforts are also supported by the funding commitment of 12 million euros for the Life project "Pannonic Salt 2023". This project is crucial for improving the groundwater situation in the region. With all of these initiatives, it becomes clear that both Burgenland and Lower Saxony are actively working on managing the challenges of climate change and at the same time maintaining their natural treasures.
