Hofer: Freedom striving for change in Burgenland
In the past few days, the Burgenland Freedom Party (FPÖ) has caused a sensation when it made an important change in their country list after the appointment of their new top candidate Norbert Hofer. Hofer, who had recently taken on this responsibility, emphasized the need to concentrate on the upcoming election campaign before specific government variants can be discussed. "We want to present a good program and make good politics for Burgenland," said Hofer, who gave a clear rejection of quantifiable election goals.
The adjustment of the state list took place on Tuesday and was unanimously decided on the party board. The previous top candidate, Petschnig, now takes the last place on the list. This shows that the FPÖ is ready to adapt its strategy to the new circumstances. Hofer believes that a coalition between the SPÖ and the ÖVP is "unlikely" and indicated possible alternatives, such as an alliance of SPÖ and the Greens.
campaign preparations and citizens' concerns
The election campaign has already started speed, and Hofer reports on his “coming home tour”, which was recently started. The feedback from the population gives him hope. The long waiting times for medical operations and the lack of resources in hospitals are particularly often addressed. Hofer emphasizes that investments in new hospitals bring little benefit if the medical staff is not available.
But the focus is not just on health policy. According to Hofer, the appearances of the SPÖ, under the leadership of Doskozil, also have to take a critical exam: "It is a SPÖ, no matter how to describe yourself." The FPÖ will present its election program in the coming days, which the followers are already looking forward to.
The FPÖ has set up a mixture of experienced personalities and fresh faces in its newly compiled team. There are also several district party chairs at the head of the constituency proposals, including Mario Jaksch in Neusiedl am See and Johann Tschürtz in Mattersburg. However, the designated women's representation on the list can be expanded, which Hofer admitted: "The gender ratio is unbalanced. We have to inspire more women for politics." The first woman on the state list is therefore in 5th place.
In view of the current political constellations and preferences, the FPÖ seems to be well positioned to mobilize its electorate. Hofer firmly believes in a significant election result for the freedom. "It feels as if something is moving," said Hofer. It remains to be seen whether this leads to a successful election result. For deeper insights into this topic and further information about the changes in the FPÖ state list, see the current one Reporting on k.at .
