Spring cleaning at the Neusiedler See: Sludge and reeds are removed!
On Tuesday, the plans for the removal of reeds and mud were presented at Lake Neusiedler. State Councilor Heinrich Dorner, Managing Director Erich Gebhardt from Seemanagement GmbH and the mayor of Oggau, Thomas Schmid, took part in this meeting. This initiative aims to improve the water quality in the lake and at the same time promote the ecosystem in the region.
For the coming season, Seemanagement GmbH has provided a lot of around 60,000 cubic meters of mud, which are to be removed in a total of 34 locations in twelve out of fourteen municipalities by the end of April. One focus is on the elimination of Bruchschilf, which is not ecologically valuable, but increases the evaporation of the water level. New machines were purchased for these tasks, which will soon be used.
extensive maintenance measures
In addition to the reeds and mud work, the maintenance of channels and fire protection units is also used. The removal of mud is planned in particular in the port facilities, such as in Oggau. Further measures are the labeling of the entrances with Dalben. Seemanagement GmbH will also be active in bathing areas, such as those in the reedsules in front of Mörbisch, and pump out the mud.
in Apetlon and Weiden, no work is planned in winter, since votes in the national park are complicated in these areas and a deduction basin is missing in Weiden. According to Erich Gebhardt, however, solutions are already being worked on in order to be able to work here soon.
The extensive planning also includes future objectives that are intended to increase the capacity for sludge work to over 100,000 cubic meters. Further maintenance work on existing setting pools is necessary. There are also discussions with the Ministry of the Environment about the use of Bruchschilf, whose burning down by strict regulations of the Air Reminder Act.
New projects on the lake bank
An important project is also due to the Danube inflow at Hainburg. A “Memorandum of Understanding” between the state of Lower Austria, the BUND and SEEMANAGE GmbH was recently signed, which drives the planning for the environmental impact assessment. After this has been successfully completed, State Councilor Dorner expects the implementation to begin in five years at the earliest.
In addition, Seemanagement GmbH is planning to build a new seat for its activities at the Neusiedler See. This project was discussed in advance in the local council. Mayor Schmid informed that the implementation was necessary for the implementation and various contracts. Specific details are to be communicated in the coming months.
The demand for these measures is increased by the recent weather conditions, since the rainy months of early summer and the heavy rains in September to benefit the water level of Lake Neusiedler. The level is currently two centimeters above the long -term average after it was temporarily over half a meter below.
