Volunteer fire brigade Neufeld deletes fire in historical locomotive
Yesterday afternoon the Neufeld volunteer fire brigade was called to a fire at the Leitha (Eisenstadt area district), the exact cause of which was initially unclear. The alarm was carried out due to a fire that was discovered in the driver's cab of a historical locomotive, the locomotive 121. Unknowns had lit small amounts of garbage in the cauldron of the locomotive, which triggered the alarm.
The volunteer fire brigade members set up on site to maintain access to the locomotive and combat the small fire. With the help of a high-pressure tube (HD tube) they were able to quickly extinguish the flames and remove the burning material. After around an hour the operation was successfully completed and the fire brigade restored its operational readiness. Overall, more than two dozen fire brigade members and three vehicles were in use.The history of the locomotives
The Lokomotive 121 belongs to a group of machines that were used at the Raab-Edenburger-Eisenbahn (GYSEV) until the late 1970s. This series includes the locomotives 121 to 124, all of which were designed with the Hungarian MAV 375. While Lok 124 is exhibited in the Schwechat railway museum, the other two are currently in Bad Neusiedl am See and in Mönchhof.
The quick reaction and professionalism of the Neufeld fire brigade prevented worse things and protected the historical locomotive. The pioneering work of this fire brigade is crucial to preserve the cultural heritage of the region and ensure that historical vehicles such as locomotive 121 can still play a role in public awareness.
