Cartel violations in public issues: New guidelines and checklist presented

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Federal Competition Authority and the State Billing Hates of Burgenland and Upper Austria have strengthened their efforts to combat antitrust violations in public contracts. This cooperation aims to recognize and prevent procurement agreements in order to drastically reduce the costs of public orders.

On November 28, 2024 at 10 a.m., the guidelines "Prevention and Recognize Aus Authorization" as well as a checklist for tendering positions will be presented in the federal competition authority. A significant detail is that the total procurement volume of the state is around 67 billion euros, which makes up for about 18 percent of the gross domestic product. According to the OECD, the prevention of procurement agreements could be reduced by a total of 20 percent.

Natalie Harsdorf, General Director of the Federal Competition Authority, together with René Wenk from the State Audit Office Burgenland and Rudolf Hoscher from the State Audit Office in Upper Austria, will present and explain the guidelines that can be identified and how the risk of cartels can be reduced.

This important cooperation has the potential to strengthen the integrity of public contracts and to ensure fair competition.
