Glass fiber connections in Austria: Only every sixth household uses it!
Wien, Österreich - In Lower Austria, an alarming picture is shown in terms of using fiber optic connections. According to the information from Noen.at , around 266,000 households could benefit from a quick internet connection, but only a fraction actually uses this option. There are a total of 1.9 million potential broadband connections all over Austria, but only 317,000 are activated, which corresponds to a catastrophic user share of just 17 percent.
user behavior illuminated
The user behavior is also revealing: According to krone.at , a data volume of 2,950 petabytes via fixed and mobile networks was consumed in the first quarter of this year, which means an increase of ten percent compared to the previous year. The increase in the mobile network, which increased by 17 percent to 1,266 petabytes, is particularly striking, while use over landline only rose by just seven percent to 1,684 petabytes. Vienna leads with around 751,000 of the 1.9 million connections, while Burgenland stands as the bottom with only 17,500 fiber optic connections.
The Austrian market has so far been dominated by several smaller providers, with A1 Telekom Austria ahead with a share of 30.3 percent. Energie AG Upper Austria and cable plus follow 6.9 percent and 6.8 percent market share. Despite the existing capacities, the fiber optic connection uses behind the expectations, which could seriously endanger the digital future in Austria.
