Revelations about the Sonnenkraft campaign: a coincidence or targeted advertising?

The “Krone” and the state of Burgenland: Suspicion of surreptitious advertising?

In an unusual twist, the popular newspaper Krone may have uncovered a questionable connection to the jointly operated company with Burgenland Energie AG. The fact that the paper actively promotes a solar company that is connected to the energy company raises more questions.

The editor-in-chief of “Krone”, Klaus Herrmann, proudly announced the “Krone Sonne” campaign, which officially started on June 12, 2022, in a comment in the Sunday edition. For the founder Hans Dichand, environmental protection was always a central concern, but the transparency in reporting on solar energy leaves a lot to be desired.

Reporting on solar power from June this year was in some cases difficult to distinguish from advertising, which drew criticism from critics. It seems as if the lines between objective reporting and self-promotion are blurring.

The assumption that surreptitious advertising is being carried out here could not be unfounded. Readers are increasingly aware of such practices and are demanding more transparency in editorial lines.
