Young people shape the future: ideas for a climate -neutral Burgenland
At this year's youth climate conference in the Kultur Kongress Center Eisenstadt, almost 400 pupils presented their creative approaches for a climate -neutral future. This was already the fourth edition of this event, which took place for the first time in cooperation with Burgenland Energie and led by deputy governor Astrid Eisenkopf.
As part of various themed workshops, the young people deal with the motto "come into doing" over the entire school year and, together with experts from institutions such as the Burgenland state government and the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. These suggestions were presented during the conference and discussed with leaders, whereby the focus was on how these ideas can be concrete into reality.
valuable ideas for climate protection
The discussions during the conference were of great importance. Astrid Eisenkopf emphasized that the students' suggestions not only drive environmental and climate protection forward, but also improve the quality of life of the residents in Burgenland. "The ideas and suggestions are invaluable," says Eisenkopf, who wants to present the results of the conference to the newly founded climate council, where they are discussed with scientists.
Also at the podium was Stephan Sharma, the CEO of Burgenland Energie. He also emphasized the importance of shaping the energy future with the youth. "The energy future is a generation project. We design it for and with the youth of the Burgenland," said Sharma, emphasizing that this initiative was a further step to achieve energy independence in Burgenland until 2023. The young people act as role models in the energy transition in the region.
an ambitious goal: climate -neutral by 2030
A central goal of this conference is to make Burgenland as the first federal state in Austria by 2030, which would highlight the region in Europe. "In 2023, the climate strategy was drawn up, which comprises 120 measures in nine fields of action. We will consistently advance these measures," said Eisenkopf during the conference, increasing the message that young people are the voices of the future, whose commitment and ideas are essential for political decisions.
The results of the youth climate conference, including the declaration of the students, are available online and can be called up on the Burgenland website. More information can be found on www.burgenland.at/klima .
