Neuberg, Österreich - In Burgenland, preparation for natural disasters and emergencies became a central priority, especially according to the challenges that flood events in recent years. The Burgenland population protection therefore organized various workshops last year to inform the citizens about the correct procedure in the event of a crisis. An important topic is preparing for possible blackouts. President Herbert Wagner reported the great interest in events such as "Emergency cooking - cooking without electricity", which are supposed to help people remain capable of action in crisis situations. Significant progress in disaster protection was introduced in October 2024: the new Warning system AT-Alert, which sends SMS warning messages to mobile phones. This system, which can be activated by both the Ministry of the Interior and the State Security Center, aims to inform the population quickly about dangers such as forest fires, storms and chemical accidents. Together with the information campaigns to raise awareness of students who run under the motto Safety Tour and reached over 1,230 children last year, a comprehensive approach is being followed to protect society.

With the approaching semester break, the focus is also on winter sports. In order to avoid accidents when skiing, experts urgently advise you to observe the rules of the International Ski Guy (FIS). As the BZSV reported, careless actions are particularly dangerous and could have serious consequences. In addition, ice skating on natural ice surfaces, a popular sport in Burgenland, is classified as dangerous if the ice rink is not safe. Therefore, it is advised to be particularly careful when ice skating in order to avoid dangerous impressions in the ice. The public is called to exercise increased caution in both winter sports and skier activities.
