The RWB is actively committed to natural viticulture and biodiversity, the focus is on autochthonous grape varieties such as Blaufränkisch, Chardonnay and Zweigelt. The wines of the RWB are characterized by individuality and sort typicality, and all winemakers run family -run companies in which they grow and process their own grapes.
sustainability in Burgenland viticulture
The importance of sustainability is also increasingly emphasized in the context of the Austrian viticulture. In Burgenland, where 24% of the vineyards are bio-certified, wineries are strongly careful to promote environmentally conscious growing methods. This is contrasting to agricultural practices in other winegrowers where monocultures predominate. In Austria, the viticulture area is managed on average by small, family -run companies, with the average vineyard area being around 4 hectares.
Due to the management of strict standards and the increasing certification with the “sustainable Austria” seal, it is ensured that viticulture is both profitable and environmentally friendly. For example, a high -quality Sauvignon Blanc from Styria can achieve high market prices that cannot be achieved with conventional cultivation methods.
Overall, it can be seen that the renowned wineries of Burgenland not only play an important role in Austrian viticulture, but are also a role model for the combination of tradition, quality and sustainable development.
