Colorful mural revives: Art as the motor of urban renewal!

Hernalser Hauptstraße 100, 1170 Wien, Österreich - On May 2, 2025, a new mural of the artist NDZW will be inaugurated in Hernalser Hauptstraße 100, 1170 Vienna, which draws attention to the Wieneu+ urban renewal program. This work of art thematically refers to living space, urban renewal and community and also integrates the colors of the district coat of arms and the local wine -growing tradition. Vice mayor Kathrin Gaál emphasizes how crucial art and culture contribute to the revitalization of public space. It emphasizes the objective of WiEneu+to shape places for the well -being of people, which becomes clear in the presentation of the murals. District leader Peter Jagsch is pleased with the introduction of Wieneu+ in Hernals, while Karin Ramser von Wiener Wohnen appreciates the long tradition of art in the community building.

WIENEU+ is a comprehensive urban renewal program of the city of Vienna, which will be implemented by 2030. It aims to make the districts of climate and future fit and to focus on the needs of the residents. The program manager Stephan Hartmann points out how important urban renewal is for social cohesion and adaptation to climate change. In addition to the concrete implementation of projects, knowledge and innovation management is also designed as a central task to promote sustainable solutions.

goals and strategies of the program

This is in three themed columns: Building & Energy, Public Space and Social Neighborhood & Grätzl Development. The initiatives include ecological building renovations, energy -efficient solutions and the development of common areas and structures. Wieneu+ grant provides for residents. These extend from consulting services to direct financial support for innovative projects.

  • Program areas in WiEuu+ consist of around 30 individual projects.
  • Hannhmen advisory and support offers for urban renewal projects.
  • innovations are encouraged to create real added value for the local people.

Another interesting aspect of the program is Grätzförderung, which supports the creative ideas of residents financially. This promotes Wieneu+ not only the individual projects, but also the active participation of the population in urban development. Projects can receive amounts between 100 and 30,000 euros.

Sustainable vision for the future of Vienna

WIENEU+ is not only active in Hernals, but also follows a long -term approach by setting the course for the current design of the project in 2020. As part of the Smart Klima City Vienna strategy, the city aims at climate neutrality by 2040. Programs such as “Oil and Gas” as well as initiatives for sustainable urban development play an important role. Also in the current framework, attention is paid to the preservation of the historical building fabric in the sense of a gentle urban renewal in order to preserve the cultural identity of Vienna.

The Mural on Hernalser Hauptstraße is an expression of these efforts and symbolizes the special importance that art takes up within the Wieneu+initiatives. The illustrated book "Streetart in the community building" documents modern facade paintings and promotes awareness of art in urban areas. The work is available via the Wiener Wohnen Service Center and the city information in the town hall and represents another step towards a lively, culturally enriched city.
