Colorful bloom: Linz blooms with 70,000 summer flowers!

On May 20, 2025, the summer planting began in Linz, which is supposed to accentuate the cityscape with colorful flowers. A total of around 70,000 summer flowers are used in more than 100 different types and varieties at over 30 locations. The Linz city nursery thus shows its focus on sustainability and beautifully designed public spaces. For this year's campaign, about 2,000 square meters with plants such as geraniums, fuchsias and tagetes are planted.

The entire planting takes place with plants that are used 100 percent in the city's garden at the Thurnmeisterhof. An important aspect in the work of the city nursery is the circular economy, because the compost used comes from recycled plant waste. Around 70,000 liters of potting soil are used every year to refresh the beds.

diverse plants and colorful beds

The planting includes numerous shells, boxes and mobile vessels, which are integrated into the summer greening in addition to the large beds on the main square (191 square meters) and Wildbergstraße (143 square meters) (143 square meters). Each bed is carefully loosened up with a garden router before planting and enriched with a mixture of compost, coconut fibers, pine bark, lime and fertilizer.

For the implementation of the planting, around 30 gardeners, apprentices and helpers are responsible. Their work is essential to keep the approximately four million square meters of green space that the city of Linz manages in a well -kept state. Operation and care of public green spaces, parks, playgrounds and open spaces near schools and kindergartens belong to their area of responsibility.

city ecological measures

The city of Linz also pursues extensive ecological goals. Last year, for example, the gravel beds on the main square were redesigned in a natural and bee -friendly manner, including plants such as the Carthusian Ielke and the wide -leaved thyme. Such measures are part of the urban strategy to promote biodiversity and support habitats for different types of insects, especially bees.

The measures of the Linz city nursery are not only aesthetically motivated, but also contribute to improving the urban climate and promoting sustainable urban development. Through these initiatives, Linz becomes a flowering and livable place where environmental awareness and urban design go hand in hand.
