Bomb threats: Nine schools in St. Pölten evacuated!

St. Pölten, Österreich - nine schools in Lower Austria had to be evacuated due to multiple bomb threats. These threats have been recorded in several educational institutions since Sunday, May 25, 2025, and had been made via email. Police spokesman Johann Baumschlager reported that at least nine threats were received and that corresponding measures were taken to caution. In a letter that was presumably created with artificial intelligence, the sender announced that a bomb in one of the schools should explode on Monday morning. Special units were used to search the affected buildings.

The measures taken also included the use of explosive experts and specially trained dogs. Despite the intensive efforts of the emergency services, no bomb has so far been found. There are also three among the schools concerned in St. Pölten.

Unclear about the senders

The threats were received on Tuesday night and not all 16 schools in the region were affected. As a precaution, some schools closed because of the proximity to endangered institutions. The mails contained Arabic characters with the request: "You will die". The sender of these threats has been unknown, and the investigation is underway.

A 20-year-old Swiss is suspected of being attributed to 27 anonymous bomb threats since the end of September. Despite his arrest in October, he was released because the criminal proceedings in Switzerland are running. At the moment it is believed that this Swiss is not behind the new threats, it could be a free -range driver.

difficulties in the investigation

The identification of the masterminds presents the authorities with great challenges because the senders can easily disguise their data, among other things by using VPNs. The continued increase in bomb threats in schools has now become a nationwide problem that has also sparked a broader discussion about the security situations in educational institutions.
