Boku and Caritas: Together against poverty and climate change!
On June 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., a press conference will take place in the Magdas Hotel Vienna City, which will deal with the cooperation between Boku University and Caritas to reduce poverty and CO₂ emissions. This partnership aims to combine social responsibility with ecological matters, especially in the global south. For this purpose, the climate protection platform "Boku X Caritas" is relaunched, which expressly concerns Greenwashing, such as ots.at reported.
Scientific support and evaluation of these projects are ensured by BOKU University. In addition, companies and private individuals open up the opportunity to actively contribute to climate protection through donations. The press conference also offers the opportunity to pursue lectures and demonstrations, including the presentation of energy -efficient cooking ovens that are used in South Sudan. The rector of Boku University, Eva Schuley-Steindl, and the Vice President of Caritas, Alexander Bodmann, are planned as interlocutors.
challenges of sustainable development
The discussion participants will also have to point out the global challenges. So far, international instruments for combating climate change and poverty have shown hardly any significant progress. The living conditions of the people in developing countries do not improve at the necessary pace, such as Allianz-wicklima.de The need for financing to implement the sustainable development goals (SDGS) in developing countries is estimated to be between $ 3.9 trillion and 4.3 trillion
The Covid 19 pandemic has reduced the financing gap and slowed the progress among the SDGs. In order to achieve the 1.5-degree goal, drastic reductions of greenhouse gas emissions in all countries are necessary, especially in the global south, where the population has increased sharply and access to clean energy must be guaranteed for everyone.
Integrative approaches for climate protection
The need for holistic climate protection strategies is becoming increasingly clear. Such projects not only contribute to the reduction of CO₂, but also offer additional advantages, including workplace acquisition and improvement in biological diversity. As the Allianz-wicklima.de reports, the success of such strategies depends crucially on the political framework and clear legal requirements.
The support from politics is crucial to effectively implement ambitious climate protection strategies. For this, international agreements are necessary to promote the exchange of knowledge and resources and to finance high -quality projects in the global south. This is the only way to ensure a sustainable and climate -friendly future for everyone.
For media representatives who want to participate in the press conference, an accreditation is required, which can be requested at press@caritas-austria.at. Questions must be sent to Claudia Vitt, press spokeswoman for Caritas, or Astrid Kleber-Klinger, Head of Public Relations from Boku University.
