Flowering art: new exhibitions in the Lower Austrian State Gallery!

Krems, Österreich - On May 23, 2025, the new exhibition "Flower Power" opens in the Lower Austrian Landesgalerie, which was curated in an interdisciplinary manner. Gerda Ridler, the artistic director of the state gallery, and botanist Martin Pfosser focus in this show the close connection between art and nature. The exhibition includes a variety of artistic forms of expression, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations, objects and botanical preparations from different epochs, from Gothic to the present. It is divided into 18 sections, each illuminating different useful and ornamental plants- from algae to wine, tulips and apples to potatoes and roses.

This huge collection conveys the historical importance and use of the plants and their diverse representation. In the entrance area, visitors can expect an impressive installation of Regula Dettwiler, consisting of 15,000 plastic flowers, which originally served as a cemetery jewelry. This installation addresses the concepts of transience and resistance as well as the problem of microplastics. The second part of the exhibition, "Herbarium of feelings", shows dried plants that were brought in by school children and are connected with personal emotions and memories.

In addition to the exhibition "Flower Power", the Frohner Forum houses the show "Wild Painting. Frohner and neo -expressionism". This exhibition offers works by renowned artists such as Maria Lassnig, Kurt Kocherscheidt, Herbert Brandl, Gunter Damisch and Siegfried Anzinger. Furthermore, the art mile of Krems will show a retrospective to Susan Rothenberg by November 2. The exhibition "Flower Power" will be shown from May 25, 2025 to February 15, 2026, while the installation of Regula Dettwiler from May 24, 2025 to March 1, 2026 is accessible. Detailed information can be found on the website of the art mile.

The exhibition "Inventing Nature" in the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe complements the topic of fusion of art and nature and addresses a contemporary paradigm shift. After the Enlightenment, artists advocated a return to nature. In the 21st century, on the other hand, there is a new wave of aesthetic consciousness that researches synergies and new forms of action with nature. Among the artists presented are greats such as Ansel Adams and Joseph Beuys, who once again emphasize the importance of nature in art.

Overall, the current exhibitions in the Lower Austrian Landesgalerie and the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe offer a complex view of the relevance of nature in art. They invite visitors to think about the complex relationship between people, art and the environment.
