Blockchain for Good: New global accelerator promotes sustainable innovations!
Brüssel, Belgien - On April 25, 2025, the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) Nations (UndP) and Emurgo Labs launched the SDG Blockchain Accelerator. The aim of the program is to develop blockchain-supported initiatives with a social effect that contribute to achieving the UN goals for sustainable development (SDGS).
The newly founded program is aimed at UNDP employees and partners to offer knowledge, technology, support and mentoring. This is intended to develop and scaled blockchain solutions. The accelerator will absorb two cohorts annually, which take four months each and focus on capacity structure, solution development and ecosystem growth. In the next few years, up to 40 blockchain solutions will be provided that are geared towards the SDGs.
financing and support for social projects
The BGA is actively involved in basic initiatives, strategic partnerships and political dialogues in Europe. The initiative promotes cross-blocking cooperation and recognizes Blockchain as a catalyst for transparent, integrative and sustainable development. Glenn Tan, Managing Partner at the BGA, leads the program that extends over five global regions.
An important element of the program is the provision of financial resources by the fund to support innovative projects that focus on sustainable development. BYBIT, a founding member of the BGA and one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, provided a million US dollars to support Ethichub, a blockchain platform that serves small farmers.
global challenges address
In addition to the SDGs, the BGA will also use blockchain technology to counter challenges in the cotton industry's supply chain. A pilot project aims to improve the traceability and diligence in the cotton value chain by using blockchain. Working with important actors in the industry is to develop a reliable blockchain solution for sustainable cotton procurement.
Cotton production plays an important role for over 350 million people worldwide, especially for small farmers in developing countries. However, the industry is also confronted with significant environmental and social problems. In order to meet these challenges, the initiative relies on advanced technologies such as blockchain to increase transparency in the supply chain and minimize counterfeiting risks.
By combining technological progress with a circular economic approach and support for sustainable practices, the BGA pursues the overarching goal of exercising a positive influence on the global community and actively addressing social and ecological challenges.
