Alpacem and Buzzi: Strategic partnership conquers the cement market!
Fanna, Italien - An important takeover in the cement sector: The Alpacem subsidiary W&P Cementi Spa took over the Fanna cement plant in the Italian region of Friuli-Julisch Venetia. This work, which has been in operation since 1974 and produces 660,000 tons of clinker every year, was previously owned by Buzzi Spa. However, the agreement, which was signed on August 4, 2023, should only be effective after a antitrust examination in 2024. Until then, the cement plant remains active under the name Buzzi Unicem SRL, such as handwerkundbau.at reported.
With this strategic partnership, Alpacem and Buzzi want to deepen their cooperation in the Alpe-Adria room. Alpacem, some of the Wietersdorfer Group, employs a total of around 670 people at 26 locations in Austria, Italy and Slovenia and, in addition to cement, also produces concrete and binder. The takeover of the cement plant Fanna serves as a strategic step to consolidate the market position in the region and will enable the two companies to work synergically in the future on challenges such as CO2-neutral production. Buzzi Spa is already holding shares in other Alpacem subsidiaries, which further promotes the close cooperation between the two companies, as well as orf.at AusBy taking over and the associated capital increase, which Buzzi Spa provides for 25 percent participation in the Austrian Alpacem Zement Austria GmbH, the managing directors Bernhard Auer and Lutz Weber expect to strengthen their competitiveness. Alpacem installs the expansion plans in the cement sector at a time when the industry faces many challenges and shows that the company is ready to react flexibly and innovatively to the market conditions.
