Alessandro Hämmerle, the Snowboard Olympic champion of Beijing, had to cancel his participation in the World Cup races in Cervinia due to acute back problems. After an eventful last season in which the Vorarlberg won three World Cup victories, his hopes for a new successful season seem to be in danger for the time being. "I did everything to be able to drive in Cervinia, but the back just doesn't feel good enough," said Hämmerle, who had to leave the Austrian championships, as krone reported.

The review of the last season in which Hämmerle was particularly successful makes the current situation bitter. The 31-year-old hopes to stand on the snowboard again by Christmas to return to the World Cup in China in February 2025. "With intensive physiotherapy, I am working to get the problems under control," continued Hämmerle. In his absence, the reigning world champion Jakob Dusek will lead the nine-member ÖSV team, whereby Dusek emphasizes that Hämmerles are missing for the team.
While Hämmerle is pushed to the edge, the World Cup calendar shows that the season to Cervinia will only continue in February with races in BeiDahu (CHN).
