St. Pölten, Österreich - On May 26, 2025, handball player Alen Bajgoric surprisingly ended his career at the age of 31. His sporting career was characterized by numerous successes, starting with a rental station at UHC Stockerau in the Handball Bundesliga Austria. Bajgoric played two seasons for the Union St. Pölten and in the 2013/14 season with this team managed to promote the handball league Austria. The relegation could not be secured in the following season, but he scored an impressive 131 goals. This led to a move to HC Linz AG.

After a time at HC Linz, it was decided that Bajgoric will return to the St. Pöltners in the so-called “legend team”. This connection to his home club remains true to him in his further career, since he has been active for his youth club again since the 2019/20 season, which is currently playing in the Spusu Challenge. This season he also completed missions in the highest Swiss league, where he scored over 160 goals for the HSC Kreuzlingen and finished fourth in the scorer list.

Handball in Austria has a long history that started in 1921 with the first field games of the Vienna Sport Club. The first indoor handball game was held in the Vienna concert hall in 1933. The Austrian handball federation (ÖHB), founded on January 25, 1925, has advanced numerous developments in handball since then. Today the ÖHB has around 17,500 members in almost 110 clubs and has been a member of the International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1946.

The success of the Austrian national handball teams are remarkable.
