AIT: Record gains and groundbreaking innovations for Austria!

Wien, Österreich - The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology looks back on an economically successful year 2024. The result after taxes was 5.42 million euros, which represents an increase compared to the previous year of 4.89 million euros. The operating income has also grown by 9 % at 218 million euros, while the external revenues from order and co-financed research increased by 11.3 % to 130.7 million euros. The AIT currently employs 1,653 employees from more than 50 nations. The institute's vision is to establish innovation as a driving force in Europe. This is done by active participation in 127 projects in the EU research framework program Horizon Europe, 26 of which are carried out in the role of the coordinator. Overall, the AIT receives a funding amount of over 77 million euros and is therefore one of the top 3 research institutions in Austria.

The latest impact report shows the ability of AIT to provide concrete solutions for real challenges through research. Technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) are used in various areas, including protection against online fraud and in the steel industry. In addition, the AIT invested a total of 13 million euros in research topics and infrastructure in 2024.

Among the new projects are a solid battery laboratory in Vienna, the AIT H2LAB in Seibersdorf and a large test bench for heat pumps. Another destinated goal is to accompany three new spin-off projects in the pre-foundation phase in order to enable them to get started with the market and successful. Peter Schwab, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of AIT, emphasizes the importance of innovation for growth and competitiveness.
