Scout guild Wels: Christmas joy for St. Pius for over 60 years!
The scout guild Wels has been in the field of social engagement for more than 60 years and maintains a special tradition with the residents of the St. Pius Caritas location in Steegen/Peuerbach. Every year the scouts visit the facility on the third Sunday in Advent, which offers people with impairments a home. This annual event, which started in 1961, has not only developed over the years on an important appointment in the calendar of the scouts, but also into a source of cross -generational friendships between members of the guild and residents of the facility. Heli Gruber, a founding member of the campaign, remembered how a deeper relationship grew from a simple Christmas gesture.
The daily routine on this special Sunday begins with a service, followed by a lunch. In the afternoon, the scouts brought with them await the residents to give them a pleasure. An absolute highlight of the past few years was the St. Pius juggling group, which provided entertainment. Josef Ratzenböck, head of the living area, commented on how many of the visitors are now close friends of the residents, and emphasized the extraordinary commitment of the scout guild, which was recently recognized by the Minister of Social Affairs by dedicated to the guild in the 2025 volunteer calendar.
