Biotope networking in the district: Animals safely over the B 28!

Jürgen Tröge, the nature conservation officer of the Reutlingen district and chair of the Nature Conservation Association Rana, recently explained the importance of biotope networking for protected animal species. A central problem is the four-lane B 28, which cuts through a forest and meadow area between Sondelfingen and Metzingen.

The increasing traffic on the B 28 makes animals more difficult to switch between their habitats. A wide passage was created at the point where the Reichenbach flows under the B 28, near the Achalm Lamm. This passage enables types such as hinges, foxes and toads to cross the main road.

Current topics of biotope networking

Biotope networking remains a major concern for many municipalities in the Reutlingen district. The exchange and connection of habitats are essential elements of nature conservation to protect threatened species and improve their living conditions, which particularly indicates the challenges of infrastructure development.
