Tot: The hour of the winter birds starts on January 4th!
Diefenbachgasse 35/1/6, 1150 Wien, Österreich - The countdown is running: From 4 to January 6, 2025, the bird protection organization Birdlife Austria is again calling for the “hour of winter birds”, which has now become the largest Citizen Science campaign in the country. Anyone who is interested in birds - whether young or old - is invited to observe the feathered visitors in their own garden, from the balcony or in the park for an hour and to report the results to birdlife. How many and which bird species will reach the top of the ranking this winter? All nature lovers can find out together, as 2400.at reported.
reports and expectations
Last year around 28,000 people took part in the campaign and reported over 687,000 viewed birds. Despite a slight increase compared to the disappointing year 2023, the trend is negative, such as "https://www.meinbezirk.at/krems/c-lokales/birdlife-oesterreich-zur-stunde-Ter-Wintervoegel-auf_a3843069" mei- meinbezirk.at . "In the past, we were able to record an average of around 40 birds per message. In recent years, however, this value has often been below 30," explains Gábor Wichmann, Managing Director of Birdlife Austria. The continuous feedback is crucial to observe changes in bird world.
The focus this year is the popular winter birds that remain in Austria despite the cold and snow. The ornithologists are particularly excited about the development and the number of glans, which in 2023 contributed to a true invasion in the gardens. "We expect many species of birds, such as the Meisen and Mountain Fine, stay here this winter," reports Norbert Teufelbauer from Birdlife Austria. In order to record the results precisely, the hands -on campaign is an ideal opportunity for all bird lovers to deepen the knowledge of domestic nature and to make a valuable contribution to bird research.Details | |
