Vladimir Putin and the future of Syria: Vorarlberg's governor speaks!

The Situation in Syria continues to be plagued by those responsible in Vorarlberg: in a press foyer on Tuesday, Governor Markus Wallner commented on the tense situation in the country of the civil war. After the fall of Assad, the future of Syria is uncertain, but the rebels strive for a transitional government. Wallner emphasized that they were in constant contact with the Ministry of the Interior to evaluate the developments and pointed out that all asylum procedures are currently actually stopped. "Asylum is temporary protection," says the governor, who underlined the temporary nature of the asylum and explained that this does not mean a permanent stay.

Future opportunities for Syrian refugees

Wallner was optimistic that a return to her home could soon be possible for many Syrians. "The fundamentally good news that we at least got would also be that it can obviously be possible again - you always have to say 'can' - to return to this country," said Wallner. So far, around 4,800 Syrians have been living in Vorarlberg, with a third of social assistance dependent. At the same time, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner supports an "orderly and gradually" return of Syrians, whereby he initially wants to promote voluntary return measures and subsequently create a list for forced returns, as Vorarlberg.Ort reported.

However,

Wallner fears possible changes in asylum policy because the circumstances in Syria are changing. He warned that an escape reason from Syria may no longer be considered as a reason for asylum, which could affect migration policy in all federal states. These developments are currently being closely pursued by the authorities, while the situation for those affected remains tense.
