Vienna builds east of Hirschstetten: New park for biodiversity is created!
In the Donaustadt of Vienna, an impressive "Park of Biodiversity" is created, which will offer space for new habitats for animals and plants on an area of 11 hectares. This innovative park, which is created to the east of the Hirschstetten bathing pond, is not only a place for relaxation, but also a lighthouse project for the biodiversity in the city. The start of construction took place in July 2024, and according to the information from Oe24.at the first parts of the park will be completed.
The park will offer a variety of leisure options, including walking paths, resting and relaxation zones, meadows as well as a tobogganing hill. In addition to these leisure activities, attention is also paid to the preservation of biodiversity: over 20,100 square meters of new forest, toad biotopes, lizard bars and natural meadows are created to actively support endangered plant and animal species. In addition, according to wien.gv.at , the design of the site is implemented financially and ecologically by the reuse of nearby large construction sites, which shows how important sustainable practice is in urban planning.
With an investment of more than 2 million euros, Vienna pursues the goal of improving existing areas and expanding green habitats. Climate Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky emphasizes that the park not only plays a central role for the residents, but also for the entire cityscape by contributing to the increase in quality of life and promoting a conscious dealings with nature.
