Tyrol's Christmas tree producers: Tradition meets sustainability in every tree!
The Tyrolean Christmas tree producers are celebrating a remarkable anniversary this year: 30 years ago, their club was founded to organize Christmas tree production and to exchange knowledge between the companies. Today, 25 member companies are part of the ones that provide around 32,000 Nordmann firs and other conifers for the Christmas season annually. According to a report by meinzirk.at extends the cultivation area from the Niederndorf region up to 1.200 Meter height in Trins. Thanks to its easy -care nature and the small, non -stinging needles, the Nordmann fir is the most popular tree species, now they make up 90 percent of the trees produced.
sustainability and jobs
The Tyrolean Christmas tree producers combine tradition with sustainability. President Josef Hechenberger emphasizes that the domestic trees not only come from sustainable production, but also secure local jobs. A hectare of Christmas tree culture binds around 140 tons of carbon dioxide across the production phase and generates about 100 tons of oxygen. Compared to artificial trees that often cover thousands of flight kilometers, a real Christmas tree offers clear ecological advantages. These arguments are also supported by tiroler-christbaum.at where the origin of the trees is made transparent. With the "Tyrolean Christmas tree" brand, the producers guarantee that every tree in Tyrol has grown.
The Tyrolean Christmas tree producers continuously work on breeding beautiful trees in a variety of shapes and colors that reflect the special character of the Tyrolean landscape. In the current sales time, which lasts from December 6th to 24th, the trees are available at several stalls, including at the circle (Dec West entrance). The preparations for the big festival are in full swing, and the Tyroleans are looking forward to decorating their living rooms with these domestic Christmas tree treasures.
