A dramatic misfortune occurred on March 12, 2025, when a 19-year-old recruit of the Federal Army plunged into a glacier column during a ski tour on the Großvenediger. The incident occurred around 4:10 p.m. when the group of 13 soldiers was on the way back from the summit.
