Protection for wild animals: new steering measures in East Tyrol's ski regions

In the picturesque backdrop of East Tyrol, the new program "Mountain World Tirol - Experience" emphasizes the importance of a nature -friendly mountain experience. The Initiative, supported by the state of Tyrol, aims to protect nature and at the same time promote ski touring offers. Last eleven ski tour regions, including the popular areas of Kals, Tristach and Obertilliach, implement targeted steering measures to support the regeneration of the protective forest according to various shades, as reported by tirol.orf

The main components of the project are protective zones that have been set up around Patscherkofel, Glungezer and Morgenkogel. These zones are especially for sensitive habitats of wild animals that are at risk from human activities. Panorama boards that offer important information about recommended routes and protection zones are set up at the starting points of the ski tours. This should help the athletes to treat nature respectfully and to preserve valuable habitats for animals. The protection zones are also digitally integrated into cards to enable simple route planning, such as tirol.gv.at

Special protective measures and information systems

A total of 54 voluntary protection zones were defined, which cover an area of 5,350 hectares. These zones should not only serve to protect the habitat for wild animals, but also ensure that ski tours can continue to be carried out unscathed. The Villgratental in particular has started implementing steering measures since 2015 and offers a model for other regions. The new initiative aims to ensure the protection of Birk and Auerhühner in the Tristach region, while in Kals and Obertilliach the recovery of the forest is in the foreground.

In order to increase the sensitivity to nature conservation, digital information offers are also available. Based on the art project "The Invisible Animals" by Lukas Goller, it is pointed out that animals are often not immediately visible, but always observe us humans. This awareness of the interaction between humans and nature is strengthened by the information measures so that the nature -compatibility of the ski tour activities remains.
