Rescue action on Lake Grundlsee: Gams Eisinzessin freed!
Grundlsee, Österreich - A dramatic rescue operation took place on the frozen Grundlsee in Styria, where a stray and exhausted Gams was literally taken off the ice. Professional hunter Manfred Gumpinger and his colleague used a Lasso to free the needy chamois that was trapped in the cold water with their hinds. Gumpinger told the "crown" that the use on foot would have been too dangerous due to the thin layer of ice, which is why they had to improvise.
The first attempts to achieve the frightened chamois were unsuccessful. But a piece of wood that they attached to the Lasso was finally the key to success. "We tried it two or three times ... then it worked," said Gumpinger. The chamois, which now bears the name "Eisprincess", has now overcome her exhaustion and is recovering in Gumpinger's stable in Gößl. Her rescuer reports that she is doing well again and she is making progress, but is also careful: "For the full recovery, she will need a few more days, the hunter estimates."
an uncertain idea of hope
The "ice princess" will return to the wilderness after her complete recovery. Gumpinger gave her an ear brand for safety in order to continue to be able to observe the condition of the chamois. "For the time being, she has a special status and will certainly not be shot," says Gumpinger, giving hope for a safe return to freedom.
Such a heroic rescue operation is not common and makes the "ice princess" a living symbol for the will to survive in nature. According to krone and arf will surely be remembered for a long time Stay while preparing yourself for freedom.
