New school forest in Marschacht: Children plant their green future!
Marschacht, Deutschland - A new, important school forest project is born in Marschacht! From November 5th to 7th, 2024, around 500 pupils from the Ernst-Reinstorf Oberschule as well as the elementary school on the Deich and children from the Wennereck kindergarten planted around 8,000 seedlings of various tree species. This initiative, accompanied by the Future Wald Foundation, has the goal of enabling the students a deeper connection to nature and at the same time promoting sustainable environmental education. The municipality of Marschacht provides an area of about a hectare that was previously used for agriculture, such as Landkreis-harburg.de reported.
a project for the future
The project is considered the northernmost school forest in Lower Saxony and is not only a green future project, but also a valuable and species -rich enrichment for the region. "A unique project that enables children to connect to nature," said Britta Flöring, the Erasmus coordinator of the Ernst Reinstorf School. Under the leadership of the Future Wald Foundation and with the support of the Sellhorn forestry office, the students were able to gain practical experience in the planting campaign and learned the art of planting. The seedlings include types such as oaks, alder, elms and noble woods, and bushes were also planted to create a home for insects and birds, informed Kreiszeitung-wochenblatt.de .
To ensure the care and maintenance of the school forest, a 30-year cooperation agreement between the municipality of Marschacht, the Future Forest and the educational institutions was concluded. This guarantees future generations that this space not only serves as a place of learning, but also actively contributes to reforestation and maintaining natural habitats.
