New geological cards: Tyrol now fully recorded!

As part of the “Schutzwald Tirol” project, the Tyrolean State Forest Directorate has made significant progress in creating geological cards. In 2005 and 2013, 31 geofast cards were created to close the prevailing data gap in geology in Austria. According to ORF TIROL , all areas of Austria with maps on a scale of 1: 50,000 are now recorded, which is significant progress in order to offer a more complete geological overview. Esther Hintersberger from the Geosphere explains that many of the current geofast cards are replaced by geological newcarts, which increases the accuracy of the data.

Although Tyrol already had a complete cover cover some time ago, the geofast cards are still a central part of the data supply. In particular, the card sheets "Innsbruck" and "Kufstein" are currently being revised to bring these areas up to date. A uniform scale of 1: 50,000 makes it possible to present the geological conditions of Austria without great inaccuracy, which is important for residents, scientists and tourists.

Practical application of the cards

The new cards are not only important for experts, but also have practical use for hikers and travelers. An important ability to use maps is to correctly convert the standards in order to be able to determine distances between points. According to tiptoout indicates how realistic the card conditions are. A simple rule says: In order to calculate the actual distances from the card scale, you simply remove the last two zeros. For example, it results from the scale of 1: 1: 250,000 that one centimeter on the map corresponds to 12,500 meters in reality. For cards with a scale of 1: 50,000, it is two centimeters for one kilometer, which makes navigation in nature considerably easier.
