Art and innovation: Experience the Rheinorange re -experience in the Ruhr area!
A shining landmark in the Ruhr area experienced a creative rediscovery on December 14, 2024: the iconic sculpture of Rheinorange, which has marked the mouth of the Ruhr in the Rhine since 1992, is celebrated in a special exhibition in the Ruhr Gallery in the Villa Artis. This 25 meter high and 83 -ton steel sculpture was designed by the Cologne artist Lutz Fritsch and symbolizes the glowing steel for which the region is known. The Rheinorange stands not only for the geographical separation of the Ruhr and the Rhine, but also for the industrial legacy that it embodies, as the last glowing steel brain in the Ruhr area was interpreted, a picture that is more current than ever, like The city of Mülheim reports .
As part of this exhibition, two remarkable new interpretations of the sculpture are presented. Ute Nowak has created a miniature version that created “small -scale” and photographed it in various sights in the Ruhr area. This artistic homage brings the sculpture into surprising contexts. At the same time, the digital artist Funbot transferred the Rheinorange to the digital world and thus enables an interaction through augmented reality (AR). This innovation allows visitors to virtually integrate the sculpture into their own photos and offers a modern perspective on the work of art, which illustrates the connection between past and presence, as also explains on Colorful cities is .
historical heritage and modern technology
The choice of the color "RAL 2004 Reinorange" highlights the relationship between art and nature, while it is reminiscent of the glowing steel bridges of industrial era. The exhibition, which can be seen until March 2, 2025, impressively shows how the Ruhr area repeatedly reinterpreted and modernized its landmarks. Admission to the exhibition and the tours are free of charge, but registration is recommended to experience this exciting dialogue between tradition and innovation.
