Young people in the digital pull: when screen time becomes addicted!

Steiermark, Österreich - A worrying phenomenon is shown among young people in Styria, where, as reports, a third of the growing digital offers uses in a dangerous way that is associated with addiction and control loss. The managing director of the Psychotherapy Psychotherapy Styria, Erich Schenk, warns that more and more young people spend up to ten hours in front of screens every day, often in escape from social difficulties or loneliness. These people tend to prefer virtual worlds and artificial intelligence and thus move away from their real environment.

The dangers of the digital world

neuroscientist Joachim Bauer explains that the interactive digital world can have an enriching effect, but at the same time pulls people into their catch. Above all, men and adolescents who have problems in their analog reality tend to use these digital options as a safe escape. If screen use goes beyond two to three hours a day, it becomes risky, says Bauer. The increase in psychological problems in the digital generation is already demanding new treatment approaches.

In addition, neuroscientist Christof Koch illuminates how complex human consciousness is and why it remains an undiscovered puzzle. In an interview with geo , he describes that the consciousness seems to be separated from the material world. This separation is difficult to explain because thoughts and feelings cannot interact directly with the physical reality. Koch asks the basic questions about the nature of human experience and demands a rethinking, since the classification of matter and spirit is not sufficient to grasp the complexity of consciousness.
