Success for nature conservation: river rain -pipes conquer the Werra Valley Lake!

am Werra Valley Lake, one of the largest lakes in Hesse and part of the Geo-Nature Park Frau-Holle-Land, takes place in the natural area. The river rainbie breeds again in this area after this type was considered extinct for a long time. This is a success for nature conservation, such as the Werra Rundschau reports. The natural area on the north bank of the Werra Valley also houses various types such as throttle tube singers, bags, dwarf dommel, mucks, grassrel, fire -wrinkle and the blue -winged wing.

The water quality of the Werra Valley is not optimal according to human standards, but it is precisely these circumstances that have to benefit the animals and conservationists. Before the end of gravel mining in 2016, an important habitat developed on an area of 1.5 hectares. Although the city of Eschwege rejected an expulsion as a nature reserve in 2016, a 15-hectare nature area was designated in 2017 after an investor lost interest in a water ski and wakeboard system.

Removal of biodiversity and importance of the natural security area

The natural area on Lake Werra Valley, which was set up between the city of Eschwege and the Werra-Meißner-Kreis, pursues the goal of promoting nature and species protection and at the same time supporting tourism. With an area of about 15 hectares, the area includes necessary retreat, including one bird island separated from the shore, which serves as a breeding area for the river rain paste. This island solution is a central element for the rearing of the breeding population, as well as the website of the Ms. Holle describes.

Over the years, an increase in the bird population has been documented, which is confirmed by Natural Parkranger Rainer Olßok. In 2023, a total of 21 types of wild bees and 12 suspension fly species were found in this area. Biodiversity particularly valuable habitats, including the Ringelnatter and the beaver, which occur in the region. The Werra Valley Lake has thus established itself as a biodiversity oasis.

Visitors to the natural sector can explore the variety of nature on a 7 km long hiking and bike path. The ecological features of the area are emphasized with two information boards. These initiatives ensure that not only the wildlife benefits, but also the awareness of people is strengthened for nature.
