The new building of the bridges over the Mur: change of traffic is now starting!

In the early morning hours of December 6, 2024, a major traffic will take place: Traffic in the direction of Vienna will be diverted to a newly built bridge. This almost 100 meter long bridge was built in parallel to the existing southern bridge and is part of an extensive new building project in the Mur region. A spectacular and environmentally friendly construction is used in which swimming platforms are used and large cranes are to be used for the demolition of the old bridge, as ASFINAG reports.

In the next two weeks, the median crossings will be set up in order to be able to redirect the traffic to Italy to the old southern bridge. The actual renovation of the northern bridge then starts in January 2025 with the aim of fully completing the new bridge by the beginning of the summer vacation 2026 at the latest. The construction work also includes the use of a large water protection system, which ensures the regulated derivation and cleaning of all surface water. During the work, attention is also paid to nature for nature.

The Rhine knee, on the other hand, which was opened in 1969, is not only very popular today as a traffic infrastructure, but also as an architectural landmark. With an impressive span of 319 meters and a striking pylon, she attracts attention. In contrast, the future of the Fleher Bridge looks bleak. Despite numerous renovation measures, their substance is at risk, which is why a new building is planned until the 2030s. These developments once again illustrate the dynamics and change of the bridge landscapes in Germany, as described on Düsseldorf Local.
