20 years of children's laboratory Brunsbüttel: Chemistry inspires over 7000 small researchers!

A radiant anniversary for the children's laboratory of the Brunsbüttel Adult Education Center! The popular hands-on laboratory recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and attracted around 100 curious children to the former premises of the South Elementary School on Jahnstrasse. Here the little researchers were able to carry out exciting scientific experiments under the guidance of trainees from the chemical company Sasol. A day full of discoveries and exciting knowledge!

A look behind the scenes of science

The children's laboratory has been aiming for the fascinating worlds of chemistry and physics since its foundation in 2004. On the anniversary day, the young participants were able to experiment at four different stations, accompanied by former participants who are now trainees at Sasol. Many of these former children have continued their way into chemistry and are now working in the Sasol plant in Brunsbüttel. Over 7000 children have met the exciting world of science in the past two decades, equipped with coat, name tag and safety glasses.

"In the past as it is today, we are concerned with inspiring schoolchildren for science. Children are naturally curious and develop interest when they come into contact with exciting things," explained Boie Witt, Supervisor Apprentice at Sasol. The experiments, such as felt-tip chromatography, are not only instructive, but also a real adventure for the little scientists. Peter Heberling, plant manager at Sasol, emphasized the importance of interested in children at an early stage for natural sciences, as this is often crucial for their later career. The anniversary of the children's laboratory is an impressive example of the successful cooperation between companies, educational institutions and the city in the promotion of young talent.
