Seniorates in the Meredith Kercher murder case must answer for sexual offenses
Rudy Guede, the only personally convicted perpetrator of the brutal murder at the British student Meredith Kercher in 2007 in Perugia, Italy, will be on trial again next autumn. This time he has to answer for sexual offenses and violence against a former friend.
background of the case of Meredith Kercher
Guede, a 38-year-old-born Ivorte, who has lived in Italy since he was five years old, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of Kercher in October 2008. His judgment was mitigated in the appeal and in 2021 he was released prematurely due to good leadership. The case ensured a considerable media coverage and led over two dozen books and three films.
evidence and indictment points
The evidence that are to be taken into account in the new process includes more than 100,000 photos as well as thousands of chats and audio messages between Guede and the unknown sacrificial woman. The investigating judge Rita Cialoni made Guede indictment in a preliminary hearing in Viterbo.
relationship between Guede and his ex-girlfriend
The two started their relationship during Guedes and separated in 2023 when the woman filed a criminal complaint against him, Italian media reported. Guede's new indictment point refers to allegations from 2023, which affect sexual assault, abuse and stalking and were raised by a 25-year-old woman from Viterbo, with which Guede was last recently. He initially worked from prison as part of a work release and later after his release in Viterbo. The first hearing in this procedure will take place on November 4th in Viterbo.
previous convictions and legal disputes
Mary Knox, who was Kercher's roommate at the time of the murder, and her friend Raffaele Sollecito at the time were convicted in 2009 for her alleged role in the murder case. However, both were fully rehabilitated by the Supreme Court of Italy in 2015, after a complicated legal dispute. Knox, however, remains convicted of a bad recovery because she incorrectly accused her former night club boss Patrick Lumumba in 2007 of the murder of Kercher.
guedes and legal representation
Guede's lawyer Carlo Mezzetti told CNN that his client was innocent and that he fears that he would not be given a fair procedure in view of his previous conviction. In view of the circumstances of the case, which are strongly discussed in public, the upcoming court hearings are of great importance.
