Controversial aid organization for Gaza does not check any recipients

In the last few days, the help organization gaza humanitrian foundation (GHF) recorded in the Gaza Strip. Despite the statements of Israeli authorities that additional security measures are a central reason for the establishment of this new program, no screening of the Palestinians is carried out at the distribution points.

a lack of security measures

The GHF operates with the consent of the USA and Israel and was launched after Israel accused that Hamas Emergency Aid in Gaza Unterplest and benefit from their sale. However, humanitarian organizations argue that there is no evidence of a significant redirection of relief goods to Hamas, which Israel has not yet been able to publicly prove. These claims prompted Israel to replace the traditional humanitarian organizations with the GHF to prevent Hamas from gaining access to relief goods.

criticism of GHF and the distribution of relief goods

Compared to UN aid organizations such as UNRWA, which usually check the identification in the distribution of help and are based on a database registered families, the GHF seems to implement fewer measures to ensure that the help arrives.

A CNN journalist who attended a distribution point reported that neither security nor identity tests were carried out. Different eyewitnesses described that criminal gangs and dealers used the situation by paying people to go to the distribution points and pick up aid packages that they could sell later.

The situation on site

Videos of CNN show groups of young men who get aid packages away on donkey carts while they hide their faces with shirts and ask not to be filmed. A spokesman for the GHF said: "There are not enough relief supplies in Gaza ... Therefore we concentrate on , not to check the ID cards. " However, there are already reports on redirection of relief goods.

"The Americans have opened the doors to us, and everyone who wants to go and take what they need," said Bilal Hawadri. Another man, Yousef Shallouf, said that he had seen "gangsters", paid the people to "get aid packages", who were then resold. Such behavior would be more difficult to carry out under the UN system.

the UN and their concerns

The Unrwa distributed help based on their database of families in Gaza during the majority of the war, with the recipients asked to provide proof of identity. The moment a family member picks up help, this is noted in the system.

Israel's authorities recently forced the UN to change this system by prescribing the output of relief goods in bakeries and kitchens instead of households. The UN aid organizations have supposedly violates humanitarian principles and increases the risks for the Palestinians.

Current developments

According to reports, 11 Palestinians near the GHF distribution points were killed in Israeli fire near the GHF distribution points this week. In the initial phase there was an attack by hungry Palestinians on a distribution point, which forced the American security personnel to return.

The GHF states that they have distributed over 23,000 food packages this week, which corresponds to more than 2 million meals. The interim of the GHF, John Acree, said: "Despite the critical situation, our auxiliary measures are valuable support for the people in Gaza. This assignment is only the beginning and we are determined to continue to provide food safely and effectively."
