Tuttlingen in the state of emergency: queues in front of the table shop!
In the city of Tuttlingen, the table shops are booming. Every Tuesday and Friday, many people stand in the queue to supply food for just 25 euros with a week. The customers have increased greatly, many are even coming several hours before opening to secure the best offers. According to Katharina Schlenker, the head of the local table shop, seniors and single people are particularly affected, who often have to make do with little money and are often ashamed to shop here. "There are many people who are ashamed to shop at the board, although their financial hardship is great," she explains, while the queues extend far into the street.
insight into the table shop
The Tuttlingen table shop has strict income limits that are based on the sentences of the citizens' allowance. For example, all people with a net salary are allowed to buy under 1310 euros or 1965 euros from a two-person household. Even over 75-year-olds can come into the store without evidence. While more and more people are dependent on the offer, there are reports on a decline in Ukrainian customers. Nevertheless, the demand remains unbroken, and the team strives to reach people who, for various reasons, cannot get into the shop themselves. The mobile table should support here, but the demand remains behind the expectations.
in Stuttgart-Möhringen it looks similar. The table shop there has developed into a central point of contact for people in need and many refugees. Up to 300 customers flock in every day to take care of the bare essentials. As the director Marina Eisele reports, the offer is a surprise bag every day - it is uncertain which foods arrive and can be cleared on the shelves. Daily sorts and constant refills are necessary to cover the need. Here too, volunteers and people are active on a social participation measure, but the future of which is at risk if these programs end, according to Eisele. The team of employees is working hard to secure basic care for all those in need.
While the table shops are trying to always be there for their customers, the support of grocery stores and donors is crucial. "We look forward to any support, because the goods can never be a matter of course," says Schlenker. The challenges are great, but the will remains to be helped both in Tuttlingen and Stuttgart.
