Explode prices: Food costs up to 33% more!

In the past few months, an alarming trend has occurred in everyday products that is worrying for consumers. According to the information from pricerunter.at, a price comparison platform, many products, such as lipsticks, have decreased significantly not only in quality, but also in the content. David Wurm, the founder of Preisrunter.at from Hagenberg, told ORF Oberösterreich that some lipsticks offer up to twelve percent less content while the prices have remained the same. This trend can also be seen in detergents: consumers receive fewer washes at the same prices.

The price development is not just a topic for beauty products. The basic foods also experienced noticeable price increases last year. Coffee beans and tea butter have become more expensive by one third, while orange juice has risen around a fifth. In view of these developments, the view of future prices is dark. "Basically, one can assume that food or basic foods are not cheaper. We will probably remain at this price level," emphasizes Wurm and points out that the prices depend heavily on harvests and supply chains.

growing price pressure

An analysis that was carried out as part of an extensive report from the University of Potsdam illustrates the worrying price developments in a variety of economic areas. It becomes clear that not only prices are increasing, but also the content and quality of the products are under pressure, which could significantly influence consumers' purchase decisions. These surveys provide valuable insights into purchasing power and price control, which affect both manufacturers and consumers.

This combination of factors criticizes the current economic situation and raises questions about price stability in the future. At a time when the trust of consumers is at stake, both companies and economic institutions have to find solutions to address the stress caused by increasing prices and shrinking product properties.

ORF OÖ reported that ... The University of Potsdam confirmed the trends.
