Auxiliary campaign in the Gaza Strip: Waffenruhe brings hope for hungry!
Gaza-Stadt, Gazastreifen, Palästina - In the Gaza Strip, a ceasefire that came into force on January 19 triggered an important turn in the humanitarian aid campaign. According to the World Food Program (WFP), the organization has increased food aid to double to counteract the impending famine. "A famine is averted for the time being, even if the situation remains tense," said Martin Frick, the WFP's Germany boss. Since the beginning of the ceasefire, more than 30,000 tons of food have been delivered to the population after the supply routes had previously been blocked for over 80 days. This auxiliary measure reaches more than a million people in the Gaza Strip, where over two million lives, such as reported.
celebrations & political tensions
The ceasefire was celebrated by many Palestinians on the streets of the Gaza Strip, especially in Gaza city, where a parade was held, in which also masked fighters of Hamas took part. Despite the celebrations, there was a delay in compliance with the ceasefire, since Hamas could not submit a list of names of Israeli hostages in good time. This led to continued attacks by the Israeli army, in which at least 19 people were killed, such as Deutschlandfunk reported.
In the middle of these political unrest, Israel's right-wing extremist police minister Ben-Gvir announced his resignation, which caused additional tensions within the government coalition of Prime Minister Netanyahu. Nevertheless, the majority in parliament remains unchanged. During this ceasefire, the parties to the conflict are supposed to negotiate an agreement to terminate the war, whereby Netanyahu threatened Hamas with an intensification of the war should be violated.
