Voters for the Chamber of Agriculture election: UBV goes into the race with new ideas!
Scheibbs, Österreich - On March 9, 2025, the Chamber of Agriculture in Lower Austria is pending, a decisive event for the independent farmers' association (UBV). The association currently holds three of the 36 mandates and strives to massively improve this result. Instead of just eight, as in the last election, the UBV wants to compete in 16 districts, and a total of around 100 farmers will run for the association. At a press conference, the lack of transparency of the right to choose the chamber was sharply criticized, whereby the voter recording was described as "arbitrary". According to the UBV, the economic situation of the farmers who have to make do with an average income of only about 16,000 euros per year, while officials earn an average of 62,000 euros
The independent farmers' association has also set itself the goal of putting an end to the “peasant death”. The current farming representative is perceived as a hindrance regarding reforms in agricultural policy. The UBV calls for comprehensive changes and has formulated 42 central claims that were handed over to the President of the National Council, Walter Rosenkranz. The association would like to improve the political framework in the interests of the farmers and strengthen the competitiveness of small businesses that suffer from EU agricultural policy.

In order to draw attention to the challenges of agriculture, the UBV has started a nationwide public campaign. Under the motto "#fragdenwirt", consumers' awareness of questions about the environment, climate and animal welfare should be sharpened. In this context, tablets are set up in the Scheibbs district that call up consumers to ask questions about the origin of their food. District chairman Alois Fröschl emphasizes that the transparent labeling of products is of great importance for consumers. As long as this is not regulated by law, consumers should actively ask.
