Baltic Sea at the limit: Benno Fürmann reveals the crises of the sea!
In the new ARD documentary "Baltic Sea am Limit", the actor Benno Fürmann leads the audience on a haunted journey along the Baltic Sea coast. The documentary illuminates the pressing challenges with which the Baltic Sea fish are confronted, which suffer from the pressure of dwindling fish stocks and unclear EU fishing rates. In the region, which is characterized by massive environmental problems, such as excessive fertilization and overfishing, Fürmann finds that nature not only overwhelms, but also fights for its future. He meets one of the last fishermen in Freest (Vorpommern-Greifswald), which welcomes the return of the cone seals, but at the same time is worried about his existence, since these already endanger his already scarce fish stocks, like Swyrl reported.
Environmental problem and innovative solutions
The team of scientists on the research ship "Elisabeth Mann Borgesee" shows that the condition of the Baltic Sea is alarming. Massive algae flowers arise due to the over -fertilization, which leads to a lack of oxygen in the waters. This problem is reinforced by the fertilizer residues of agriculture that get into the rivers with the rain. Formann's visit to Estonia is impressive, where innovative approaches such as floating green plant islands are developed to reduce nutrient overload in order to stabilize water ecology, as well as ARD Mediathek emphasized.
In order to counteract the negative effects of mass tourism, Fürmann advises a shortening of the campsite season on Fehmarn in order to treat nature to the urgently needed recreation phases. The audience should be sensitized that solutions can only be found together to preserve the Ostsee holiday paradise. The documentary impressively illustrates the need for all those involved - fishermen, scientists and tourism managers - to work together to ensure the future preservation of this unique landscape.
